How Park & Ride Works at BHX
Park and ride is simple, but the two numbers people want before booking are how often the bus runs and how long it takes. Both are stated below rather than left as an impression.
Before you fly
- 1
Park at the off-site compound
Drive to the compound named on your booking, one to three miles from the terminal along the A45. You park the car yourself and keep your keys.
- 2
Take the free shuttle
Transfers run roughly every ten to twenty minutes through the day and cost nothing extra, for you and everyone travelling with you.
- 3
Arrive at the terminal
The run in takes five to ten minutes. Allow twenty to thirty minutes in total from arriving at the car park to standing at check-in.
When you land back at BHX
- 1
Head to the marked stop
Your confirmation names the exact stop in the arrivals coach and bus area, along with the number to call if your flight has landed late.
- 2
Ride back to your car
The same five to ten minute run in reverse, on the same frequency. Nothing to arrange in advance on the return leg.
- 3
Drive away
Your car is where you left it and you still have the keys, so there is no handover to wait for at the end of a long flight.
Shuttle Times and Transfer Distances
How far each Birmingham car park sits from the terminal, how often its transfer runs and how long the run takes. Timetables tighten in the summer peak and thin out overnight, so check your operator's hours if you are flying very early.
| Operator | Distance from terminal | Shuttle frequency | Transfer time | Hours |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Green Oaks Park & Ride | About 2 miles | Every 10 to 15 minutes | 5 to 8 minutes | Runs to meet scheduled flights; call ahead for overnight arrivals |
| Smart Park and Ride | About 2 to 3 miles | Every 15 to 20 minutes | 8 to 10 minutes | Daytime timetable, reduced service overnight |
| Airparks Birmingham | About 1 to 2 miles | Every 10 to 15 minutes | 5 to 10 minutes | Runs through the day and evening |
| On-airport long stay | About 1 mile | Every 10 minutes | About 5 minutes | 24 hours |
Transfer times are the run itself. Allow twenty to thirty minutes in total from arriving at the car park to standing at check-in, which covers parking up, unloading and waiting for the bus.
Birmingham Park & Ride Operators
Green Oaks and Smart Park and Ride both draw branded searches at Birmingham every month, and until now nothing on this site answered them. These are the operators behind the park and ride results you will see.

Park & Ride vs Meet & Greet at Birmingham
Park and ride costs less; meet and greet costs less time. Both use secure, monitored car parks, so the choice is genuinely about the transfer rather than about standards.
| What matters | Meet & Greet | Park & Ride |
|---|---|---|
| What you do with the car | Hand the keys to a driver on the terminal forecourt | Park it yourself in an off-site compound |
| Getting to the terminal | You are already there, so walk straight to check-in | Free shuttle bus, typically 5 to 10 minutes |
| Time from arriving to check-in | Around 5 minutes | Around 20 to 30 minutes including the transfer |
| Cost | Higher, because you are paying for the terminal handover | Lower, and the gap widens on longer stays |
| Luggage and passengers | Nothing to load twice; best with children or heavy bags | Bags come off at the car park and on again at the shuttle |
| Best for | Early departures, tight connections, business trips | Holidays, longer stays, anyone parking on a budget |
